Citrine is a crystal in the quartz family, sometimes called yellow quartz. Per mindat.org, the cause of citrine’s color is unknown. In nature, it is commonly found near smoky quartz deposits. Sometimes they occur in the same stone, as the one we used to create our citrine elixir, seen to the left. As a type of quartz, citrine carries quartz’s innate ability to bring balance and harmony. Its particular expression brings an energetic warmth to quartz’s energetically-balanced energetics.

High quality untreated citrine is difficult to find. Because of the scarcity of genuine citrine, much of the citrine on the market is amethyst or smoky quartz that has been heat-treated, shifting their natural colorings to yellow/orange. This process destroys both crystal’s healing energies. If you’re looking to purchase a citrine crystal, note that heat-treated quartz can be called citrine.
