When we stress, we are telling our hypothalamus and pituitary glands – master endocrine glands located at the base of our brain – to go into high alert status. They inform our adrenal glands, which are responsible for responding to stress states, to shift from rest and digest to fight or flight mode, releasing stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. For the short term, this can be a good thing. Running away from an angry bear is an appropriate response. Running away from continuous media exposure? Probably not as constructive. Especially if the exposure is an everyday thing.
Tune-Up! Relax works with the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, providing it with information it needs to move out of fight-flight and back to rest-digest mode.
